A new addition to the bizarre, yet intriguing collection of houseware available at the MoMA store is the Less Lamp. An $800 lamp that must be shattered in order to function.
It works a bit like an egg.
Designed by Jordi Canudas, the Less Lamp comes with a specially designed pickaxe that lets the owner decide how and where to crack the plaster lampshade and the direction of light emission. Holes can also be picked into the lamp to give it a speckled feel and for more light release. The lamp is often compared to a big, light-encompassing egg, minus the immodest price tag of course.
Breaking the lighting fixture as a requirement? Sounds kind of therapeutic.
