If you consider yourself someone who likes your technology to be just as fancy as your Sunday best, HP has the answer for you. The company has announced that they will be banding with Tord Boontje to add a little sugar and spice to the HP110 laptop. Hewlett Packard is no stranger to the idea of teaming up with designers; a recent collaboration with Vivienne Tam for a take on the HP110 laptop was inspired by her most recent runway show and the butterfly motif shown on the catwalk.
The appeal of Boontje’s design is its understated sophistication. The cream-coloured Baroque-meets-floral pattern encases the laptop and uses a new technology called “HP Imprint 3D”, and the photos look pretty impressive. In fact, this might be one of the more elegant laptops out there; light on the gauche, heavy on the elegance, and one that we certainly wouldn’t mind toting to the CHEEKMagazine.com office.
Tord Boontje’s design genius has won international acclaim. A 2007 recipient of the Red Dot Design Award and named 2005’s Dutch Designer of the Year, the Netherlands-born artist runs Studio Tord Boontje out of France. Boontje currently has an exhibition titled “Fig Leaf on show” at the V&A museum in London until October 18, 2009.
With a price tag of $399, the Boontje HP110 is an affordable way to bring a little sweetness to your cubicle.
