If you are of the belief that style and comfort are mutually exclusive, think twice. Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, the design duo behind Vena Cava, are teaming up with Converse to deliver you quirky and relaxed kicks with a high fashion edge.
The Vena Cava for Converse hi-tops feature a white and black checkered pattern and are equal parts neutral and funk – just how we like our fashion to be. Now that fall is upon us, high-tops are a perfect weapon of choice for Saturday strolls. And what’s better? These Chucks are for a great cause.
The collaboration between Vena Cava and Converse is part of the ongoing project 1HUND(RED), and Converse’s commitment to doing their part to help out with the A.I.D.S crisis in Africa. By teaming up with 100 different artists and designers and giving them each an opportunity to design a Converse shoe, the well-loved sneaker company is both celebrating its centennial anniversary as well as giving back to Project Red. (RED) is an organization dedicated to combating the A.I.D.S crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa by delivering antiretroviral medication to those who need it. The organization has a fashion conscious crowd following, with partners like Emporio Armani and past collaborations with South African jewelry designer Susan Hanover.
These shoes will be available starting in November 2009. And may we remind you, the only thing better than a comfy pair of sneakers is spending your hard earned money in a way that benefits the global community. You can’t argue with that.
