With today’s love of vintage, and obsession with celebrity collaborations, it’s surprising that something as brilliant as Oxfam’s newly announced D.I.Y initiative didn’t emerge earlier.
D.I.Y. is the collaboration between Oxfam, the U.K.’s largest thrift store, and stylist Mrs. Jones, the woman who gets the credit for creating Kylie Minogue’s white hooded catsuit as well as styling the likes of Madonna, Scissor Sisters and The Killers. Using her experience with the recycling and transformation of garments, Jones has created an exclusive line of 30 outfits using only pieces from Oxfam’s recycling facility ‘Wastesaver’.
The line designed by Jones is on sale now, but for everyone who wants to put their own vision into customized vintage clothing, Jones and Oxfam will also be hosting in-store workshops in order to show shoppers how to personalize their finds.
The best part of the initiative? All proceeds go to charity.
And while those on the other side of the pond not so patiently wait for the project to spread, check out the website’s ideas on how-to- at-home (we’re especially loving the make-your-own jumpsuit tips).
