Paper Shoes: Green Accessories in Taiwan

When recycling gets innovative, it can be good for more than just the environment, it can be good for fashion as well.

Case in point, Taiwanese fashion designer Colin Lin who decided to turn her piles of old newspapers into beautiful shoes and purses. By attaching a cotton lining to the back of the used newspaper she increases its durability and then, by adding a plastic coating, she gives the shoes a shiny waterproof finish. The woven top is then attached to a rubber sole.

And there you go, environmentally friendly and cute. Every pair is even unique, displaying Chinese characters and colours from pictures and advertisements.
