Fashion models united as tribute to the late Alexander McQueen at the Fashion for Relief event in London on February 18, 2010. Friends of McQueen and super models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and McQueen’s muse, Annabelle Neilson, strutted their way down the catwalk, to raise funds for Campbell’s Haiti charity.
Moss strut down the runway in a stunning blue printed mini McQueen dress, and was her fist walk in several years. Moss welled up with emotion and tears as Topshop boss and Moss’s business partner, Sir Phillip Green, later purchased the dress at auction for $150,000 USD to help raise funds for Campbell’s Haiti charity.
As reported by CHEEKMagazine its been over a week and still McQueens death seems like yesterday.
Almost 25 years ago, to the day it was recorded, musicians banded together to create and record the legendary charity single, “We Are the World.” the song was recoded to raise money and awareness of the African famine.
This month, history repeated itself.
At 3 pm on the February,1, 2010 over 80 of music’s biggest stars got together to update and re-record the song. This time to support Haitian earthquake relief.
The lyrics were laid down over a more modern track, one with a feeling of Hip Hop and a flavour of the south. The session lasted well into the night, and the results, we are sure, will be incredible.
The new version of the song and its accompanying video will be available for purchase through a variety of online and retail partners. Every penny of the proceeds raised will go directly to Haiti through the newly created We are The World Foundation. Board members of the foundation include Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Wyclef Jean, Paul Haggis, Randy Phillips and Ambassador Louis Moreno of the Inter-American Development Bank.
The song boasts production help from RedOne and Will.I.Am during the session, and the participating artists include Lil Wayne, Celine Dion, Jenifer Hudson, Usher, Nick Jonas and many more. Talk about variety.
We’ll be sure to post links and information on how to purchase the song and make your own donation as soon as we know.
Until then, our hearts are with Haiti.
